COVID-19 is making it more challenging for individuals suffering from drug and alcohol addiction to recover and maintain abstinence. Besides, the number of mental health cases has also risen astronomically since the lockdown.

Consequently, social distancing norms have restricted community gatherings. It means that individuals are not receiving the peer support they would have received from attending in person recovery meetings.

To put things in perspective, before the outbreak, our recovery facility was organizing three hundred and forty in-person meetings per week, which is far less today. If one follows the news, it can be observed that a similar trend is taking place across the country.

As a result, meetings have shifted online, where many people are not comfortable with the technology. It’s causing individuals to isolate and procrastinate, leading to a massive increase in relapses, overdoses, and mental health cases.

However, we have also noticed that many clients are more aware of their situation, which has made them receptive to obtaining help. Therefore, we are proud to be making a difference through our transitional living services.

At Iggy’s Sober Living, we offer a caring residential environment, where clients are assured that they do not have to deal with the pandemic alone. We achieve this by connecting them with like-minded people in the community, and help them engage with their families.
